Get ready because you're going to be thrust into a time trial here. Fortunately, it's not hard to beat Hao's Time, even if he will send you around most of Los Santos. You'll have 8:10 to beat the time trial, and we cleared it in 7:30 with a lot of crashes and spin-outs, so you should be fine as long as you're relatively competent at the game. Throughout the time trial, Hao will introduce the various upgrades that are exclusive to Hao's Special Works, including engine, braking, and transmission tuning. The car definitely goes faster than anything in the PS4 game.
It's worth noting at this point that Hao's willing to give you a free car, too, assuming you've beaten Hao's Time and are a returning player. Bring up your smartphone and head to Southern San Andreas Super Autos to grab a complimentary Karin S95, complete with Hao's Special Works tuning upgrades. You can find a full list of All Cars Compatible with Hao's Special Works Tuning Upgrades through the link. You can also learn more by interacting with a laptop in the Mod Shop area of the LS Car Meet.
Once you own a compatible car, and you've become an LS Car Meet member, take it to Cypress Flats and sit inside your car to bring up the menu. Press right on the d-pad to Mod Vehicle and you'll first need to Convert your car to be compatible with HSW Tuning Upgrades. As part of beating Hao's Time, you'll get one free conversion. You can find a full list of all conversion costs thereafter in our All Cars Compatible with Hao's Special Works Tuning Upgrades. With a successfully converted car, you can then add HSW tuning upgrades for Engine, Transmission, Brakes, Suspension, Turbo, and more. Purchase the upgrades you want and make sure they're equipped.
In GTA V and GTA Online, there are two types of mod garages: the Los Santos Customs chain and the independent Beeker's Garage. However, both Los Santos Customs and Beeker's Garage are functionally exactly the same and offer the same vehicle modifications. These mod garages unlock after the completion of Father/Son in GTA V, while they are first introduced and made available to the player after Learning the Ropes in GTA Online.
The enhanced version of GTA Online also features another mod garage called Benny's Original Motor Works, which offers performance, aesthetic and interior upgrades to selected vehicles. It becomes available after Lamar Davis calls the player and asks him or her to visit the garage, watching a cutscene, and optionally completing the first of Lamar's missions.
Upgrading cars at Hao's Special Works in GTA Online is something exclusive for next-generation owners of the game. With the release of Grand Theft Auto 5 on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, the game has received substantial-quality upgrades. Los Santos has now been upscaled to run at 4K and 60 frames per second on this new hardware. Not only that, but it's possible for players to transfer over their character from the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One version of the game, making it easier than easier to pick up where they left off. Outside of a new coat of paint, there are also a handful of new gameplay features.
This includes Hao's Special Works, a garage used to add even more customization options to the player's vehicles. This includes converting a car to change its brakes, engine, suspension, and even turbo. Since this is only available on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X version of the game, crossplay is not equipped. This means PS4 and PS5 owners are not allowed to play with one another. If a player decides to migrate their PS4 data to the PS5, it will remain on the PS5 forever and the player can then only play with other PS5 owners. Regardless, after transferring over the character data, the player can unlock Hao's Special Works.
In order to unlock Hao's Special Works in GTA Online, the player will need to wait until they receive a call from Hao. As mentioned, this is only for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game. After a while, Hao will reach out about a new car he wants the player to try out and will set a location on his map for Hao's Garage located in Vinewood Boulevard. Head to this location to begin Hao's questline.
